About the Concept

As we go about our day, we rely on multiple "proverbial batteries" to keep us going—social, emotional, and physical. These energy reserves deplete at different rates depending on the person. Some have larger stores, while others drain more quickly.

As these reserves diminish, our tolerance for related activities wanes. We become more irritable, antisocial, and fatigued. For active individuals, this depletion manifests physically—stiff muscles, reduced mobility, and less energy to move.

Noticing these shifts, I borrowed the concept of HP/MP from video games: HP represents health points, while MP signifies mana, spirit, or energy. In games, characters replenish these meters with potions, rest at an inn, or visit a healer. Some even expand their HP and MP over time, increasing their capacity.

This concept resonates deeply with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Just as video game characters must maintain their HP and MP, we must also cultivate and restore our own energy levels. Acupuncture, Qi Gong, and TCM-based lifestyle practices help replenish depleted reserves, ensuring both the body and mind stay balanced. These methods don't just provide short-term boosts; they work over time to expand our capacity for health and resilience—much like increasing the max HP or MP in a game.

In today’s fast-paced world, many people push themselves until they hit critical depletion. The key is recognizing when energy levels are low and taking steps to restore them before exhaustion sets in. Sleep, movement, nutrition, and mindful practices all play a role, but TCM offers a unique, holistic approach to maintaining optimal energy levels.

At HP/MP Clinic, we apply this philosophy by using acupuncture, cupping, and other TCM-based therapies to help replenish both physical and mental reserves. Just as a seasoned player strategizes to keep their character strong, we guide our patients in restoring their energy, reducing pain, and enhancing overall resilience. By incorporating these time-tested practices, we help you build a stronger foundation—so your “HP” and “MP” stay balanced, no matter what challenges come your way.

I began my journey as an athlete, competing in martial arts, boxing, Muay Thai, and wrestling. After retiring from competition, I spent nearly a decade as a personal trainer and coach, helping both athletes and everyday individuals reach their peak performance and fitness goals. Over time, I saw firsthand how recovery played a crucial role in sustained progress and overall well-being.

During the pandemic, I decided to deepen my expertise by studying acupuncture at the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Toronto. Through this training, I discovered how TCM not only accelerates physical recovery—relieving sore muscles and aiding injury rehabilitation—but also supports mental resilience by reducing stress, combating fatigue, and improving sleep. Now, I integrate my background in fitness and athletic coaching with TCM to help people optimize their performance, recover faster, and maintain long-term health.
